A Journey Begins | Medicine Hat Portrait Photographer

My journey as a photographer has taken me through some pretty crazy emotional twists and turns.    The journey of the studio however has been a different story.     The studio is where I do easily 75% of my work.   Initially I started in my family room with nothing but hot lights and constantly having to move furniture in and out of it.   Then after some time the studio made it’s way into the basement of my home.   It was then that I started to nurture my style in studio lighting and portraiture.   I loved that little studio, but it didn’t take too long for me to grow out it.   About two years ago I started looking for a new place to bring my clients too and with a new baby on the way I only knew at the time that I really just wanted to be out into a different space away from the smells of our sneakers and last nights dinner, and I really wanted to give me kids back the basement that they so loved to play in.     So after a few months of looking Marty and I decided to share a space at the bottom of the hill close to the house.    The space wasn’t ideal, but it suited us okay as it was close to the house and I could spend the majority of my time and home and make quick trips to the studio to photograph my clients.    And now…I have outgrown it again.  Or rather, this time, I wanted a better space for my clients, who bring me those who are most precious to them.   I wanted my clients to have a welcoming, warm, clean space to have their portrait done and to view their photos.

Madchen Studios will be relocating once more.   I have found a new studio space!    The new studio will be located downtown and  is just starting to undergo some renovations to have it perfect for the beginning of June.  For those of you who know me, I hate renos….but I really feel that this will be worth it.  Until then…here’s some new portraits of Moira (my oldest) who also seems to be starting a journey of her own…
